About the Artist: David Adickes is an esteemed American sculptor and artist, celebrated for his monumental public sculptures and artworks that pay homage to figures from American history and pop culture. Born in Huntsville, Texas, in 1927, Adickes has carved out an impressive career, leaving an indelible mark on the United States' public art scene over several decades. Adickes' artistic journey was significantly shaped by his time studying under the renowned French artist Fernand Léger in Paris. This mentorship enriched Adickes' perspective and technique, infusing his work with a blend of Léger's bold, structural compositions and his own unique vision. This influence is evident in the scale and formality of his sculptures, which combine a sense of monumentalism with a deeply personal touch. Among his most iconic works is the towering 67-foot statue of Sam Houston located in his hometown of Huntsville, which stands as one of the tallest statues of an American hero. Adickes is also famous for the "We Love Houston" sign and his series of giant busts of U.S. presidents, showcasing his ability to capture the essence of American identity in his art. Additionally, his creation of a park in Virginia that displayed these large presidential busts...

  • 17th c. Flemish, Still life with birds and raisins, workshop of Frans Snyders
    Located in PARIS, FR
STILL LIFE WITH BIRDS AND RAISINS, WORKSHOP OF FRANS SNYDERS (1579-1657) An exquisite and attractive work, our painting with its rich and harmonious composition is one of the remarkable examples of the passion of art lovers of the 17th century for still lifes, the genre in full ferment in Antwerp in early 17th century, long before its arrival to Paris in the 1630s & 40s. Our painting presents on an entablature covered with wine-colored velvet cloth, various objects in an artistic arrangement which is intended to be spontaneous. The tight framing, like an extract and the piled up objects suggest a plenitude and an infinite richness of what nature can offer and reinforce the feeling of prosperity. The wicker basket overflowing with translucent bunches of grapes in green and purplish hues with icy reflections dominates the right side of the painting. In the center is the game birds, partridge, snipe, sparrow, pincon and others, each bird with a fine and precise design, transparent plumage, the meticulous rendering of the different beak or leg parts, zebrures and streaks of the down. On the left, two stacked white and blue Chinese...
