Menno Modderman
Eryngium. Contemporary Botanical Oil and Mixed-media on Board.

2022

About the Item

Eryngium. Contemporary botanical mixed-media, oil and acrylic on board by Dutch artist Menno Modderman, signed and dated 2022 to the bottom right. Working for several years now as an artist in his atelier in Cotignac in the south of France, Menno, who is well known for his highly detailed and realistic paintings has now turned his brush to a new genre. This is one of a wonderful new colourful series showcasing an entirely unique and exciting approach to botanical art. Menno begins by creating a background with great warmth, depth and texture by overlaying elements of découpage images which are then overpainted, layer upon layer allowing only snippets of the original images to appear through. Then in great detail the botanical subject is expertly painted on. The clever use of the foundation colours allow the subject to really shine out. These paintings are both stand alone pieces and highly decorative in a grouping. Modderman's other works in this series can be found on 1st Dibs.
