About the Item

Orchid. Osvaldo Peruzzi (1907, Milan - 2004, Livorno) . Dated 1988. Aeropainting. Canvas placed on the very thick cardboard tablet. Futurist painter born in Milan in 1907, engineer, became a painter in the early 1930s, when he attended the Milan Polytechnic. In 1931 his first personal exhibition took place at the Sala Taveggia, in Milan, and after graduating in Engineering in 1932, he joined the movement led by Marinetti, with whom he immediately became friends. Thus began for him too the great futurist adventure with participation in all the most important initiatives. Marinetti called him "one of the richest futurists of astonishing continuous invention, endowed with a mysterious and almost witch-like intuition". This painting comes from a charity auction held in Livorno in December 1988, and was personally delivered to the previous owner. The painting is signed in the lower left corner, the name, the date and the title of the painting are marked on the back: "Orchidea". In a modern frame, with glass (the presence of glass causes some reflections and difficulty taking pictures) *Biographical notes In 1933 he took part in the exhibition "Futurist tribute to Umberto Boccioni" at the Pesaro gallery in Milan, participated in the futurist exhibition in Palazzo Ferroni in Florence and in the first national exhibition of futurist art in Rome. With ten paintings he is present at the national futurist exhibition held at the Bottega d'arte in Livorno, organized by Marinetti, Fillia and Mino Rosso. Year 1934: He exhibited in Hamburg on the occasion of the exhibition on futurist aeropainting and from the mid-thirties to the early forties, he participated in all the Biennials and Quadrennials. 1933 - 1935 he collaborated with the magazines "La città nuova" and "Stile futurista", both directed by Fillia. 1941 he published the manifesto "Plastic of individual essence" and exhibited in Milan in the room of the Futurist aero-painters on the occasion of the III Exhibition of the Fascist National Union of Fine Arts. Alongside his pictorial activity he is also an advertising graphic designer. Under arms since 1940, he was taken prisoner by the Anglo-Americans in 1943 and deported to the USA. At the end of the war he returned to Livorno where he continued to paint and exhibit. In 2001 his work received the definitive consecration by participation in the great exhibition "Futurism 1909 - 1944", at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome.
