Native American Indian Eyes behind a large Rock.
Located in Pasadena, CA
Indian Eyes, by Austrian artist Carl Kauba shows an Native American behind a large rock. Is he hiding? and if so, from whom and why? That is left for the viewers imagination. This statue is cast in the finest American bronze, finished in the traditional dark brown patina, hand polished to bring out the awesome highlights and mounted on a black or green marble base. Due to the handmade process. 7.5″ H x 8.5″ L Carl Carl Kauba was born August 13, 1865 in Vienna, Austria. The son of a shoemaker, Kauba chose to follow his calling into the world of art. Collectors now rank him in a class with Remington and Russell as one of the great portrayers of American Western. His subjects were typically American Indians, calvarymen, cowboys, and roughriders. In addition to his American bronzes, Kauba produced a lifetime’s worth of Austrian statuary. His work became fully appreciated on both sides of the Atlantic. Carl studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under professor Laufenberg. Later he would study at the academies under Carl Waschmann and Stefan Schwartz. Next, he went to Paris in 1886 to further study before he set off for the U.S. In fact, some debate still remains as to whether Kauba ever visited the U.S. Kauba’s fascination with the West was fired by the stories of the German writer, Carl May, whose tales of Western adventure were well known throughout Europe. Most authorities feel that he was about twenty-five years old when he traveled widely throughout the American West. He then returned to Austria with voluminous notes, sketches, and several models of Western sculpture...

Solid Bronze Ballet Dancer Sculpture 'Meditation' by Benson Landes
Located in Shrewsbury, Shropshire
'Meditation' is a tasteful and demure nude of a ballet dancer. The poise and elegance of the dancer are exquisite! For Benson Landes, sculpture was most definitely a passion. His oeuvre of cast bronzes is populated with ‘off duty’ ballet dancers, rather wistful women, often caught in moments of solitary repose. Such an obvious appreciation of the grace and elegance of the female form was, no doubt, heightened by 25 years spent in the couture business, which Benson entered at the age of 14. The sculptor admitted that his time as an apprentice at his father’s clothing workroom and factory was given rather reluctantly, as he always harbored desires to become an artist. The young boy’s sense of responsibility was clearly equal to his creativity, though, as Benson knuckled down and learned the family trade. At the age of 18, however, a 2 year conscription to the RAF provided one of the few opportunities for Benson to experience artistic freedom. The possibilities of otherwise unobtainable materials such as pastels, paper, perspex and plaster of paris fuelled his ingenuity at the base’s well-stocked workshop. On completion of his RAF service, Benson briefly returned to the clothing factory now owned by his father. After his marriage to Ruth at 21, in an effort to provide for his new wife, Benson decided to set up his own business. Starting with a single sewing machine and tailoress, Benson and Ruth soon expanded the business. By the 1970s they employed over 50 staff and supplied to prestigious stores such as Dickens & Jones and Harrods. As the decade progressed, however, fashion turned towards less structured, more casual garments; a trend that prompted Benson to retire and spend time with his first love, sculpture. Buoyed by the liberty he enjoyed in his studio, Benson succeeded in selling some of his first pieces of sculpture, a collection of sporting trophies shown at the 1981 Open Golf Championship, to Garrards, the Crown Jewellers. This success quickly brought important contacts and new commissions. Benson always maintained that being able to work as a sculptor is a unique privilege. Usually in the company of a model, he often worked in the studio against the soothing background of classical music. Indeed, now eminently collectable, Benson’s work provided much comfort after the death of Ruth. Benson said that the things that mattered in life are those of beauty; he truly believed that romance and elegance are necessary shields to what he saw as the sometimes too hurried manner of life today. Benson sadly passed away in the autumn of 2013. Solid Bronze Ballet Dancer...

Contemporary Solid Bronze sculpture of a ballerina 'Tutu' by Benson Landes
Located in Shrewsbury, Shropshire
'Tutu' is a beautiful sculpture of a ballerina leaning 'en barre'. The elegance and grace of the ballerina is perfectly depicted in the sculpture. Benson's theme is predominately the wonderful world of ballet and dancers, although some are beautiful ladies in quiet repose and elegance. Piccolo Guerriero (Little Warrior)
Located in Missouri, MO
Luciano Minguzzi (Italian, 1911-2004) Piccolo Guerriero (Little Warrior) c. 1950s Bronze Monogrammed and Numbered 1/5 Height From Base to Top: approx. 12" High Bronze: 6 3/4 inches x 4W x 3D Luciano Minguzzi was born in Bologna in 1911 and died in Milan in 2004. In 1943 he took part in the Fourth Quadrennial of Rome. In 1950 he was awarded the grand prize for sculpture at the XXV Venice Biennale, and attended again in 1952. His works can be found at Museum of the Fabbrica del Duomo, in the Museum of Modern Art in the Vatican and in the Galleries of Modern Art in Rome, Milan, Bologna, Florence, Trieste, Verona, Carrara, Padova, as well as abroad and overseas. Additional Biography (translated from Italian): Luciano Minguzzi ( Bologna , 24 May 1911 - Milan , 30 May 2004 ) was a sculptor and medalist Italian . Image of the exhibition Luciano Minguzzi: sculptures and gouaches 1950-1970 in the Romanesque cloister of the Cathedral of Prato ( Museo dell'Opera del Duomo ), 24 April - 24 May 1971. Photo by Paolo Monti . Index: He made his first experiences under the wise guidance of his father, also a sculptor , continuing his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna following the engraving courses held by Giorgio Morandi , those of sculpture under the guidance of Ercole Drei , attending at ' university the lessons Roberto Longhi. Thanks to a scholarship, he stayed in Paris and London , starting to exhibit in 1933 and already at the Roman Quadrennial of 1943 he obtained his first prize, which was followed by others including the Angelicum of 1946 and the first place ex aequo at the Biennale del 1950. Immediately after the war he created the monument to the Partisan and the Partisan for his hometown , located near Porta Lame , in the area where an epic battle between Nazi-Fascists and partisans took place in 1944 .
The work, composed of two figures of young people - one of which armed - caught in a moment of great naturalness, was forged with cast bronze from the equestrian statue of Benito Mussolini (by Giuseppe Graziosi ) which was located inside the current "Renato Dall'Ara" Stadium, in turn made with some cannons stolen from the Austrians during the Bolognese Risorgimento uprisings of 1848. Still on the theme linked to war , but with a changed style with more dramatic and expressionist tones , in the fifties he created a series of sculptures inspired by the theme of the men of the Lager and the unknown and anonymous victims, obtaining in 1953 the third prize in the competition for the "Monument to the Unknown Political Prisoner " announced by the Tate Gallery ( London ). In 1950 he won the competition for the "Quinta Porta" of the Milan Cathedral , completed in 1965 . In 1962 he participated, together with the most important international sculptors of the time, in the exhibition Sculptures in the city organized by Giovanni Carandente as part of the V Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto . He presented a 1958 iron and bronze sculpture entitled Pas-de-quatre. In 1970 he was given the task of building the "Door of good and evil" of the basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican , on which he worked with vigor and passion for seven years. In 2012, on the occasion of the centenary of the artist's birth, a posthumous anthological exhibition was set up in Bologna at the Fondazione del Monte [1] . He also worked as a medalist: his example is the silver 500 lire coin...
