Anesthesia - underwater photograph - series REFLECTIONS -archival pigment 16x24"

2018

About the Item

“Anesthesia” is a part of Alex Sher’s popular series REFLECTIONS - underwater photographs that could be almost mistaken for abstract paintings as they bring up recollections of masterpieces by Picasso, Dali or Gustav Klimt. In fact REFLECTIONS are straight photographic capturing of the water’s surface from below, with a submerged underwater camera. The photographs freeze natural momentary reflections in water surface - the unique kaleidoscopic fragmentations of human body into nearly unrecognizable forms. It is these bold accents of color, mesmerizing textures, dramatic lines, and distinctive distortions that make Sher’s works unique highly advisable masterpieces. Lost in a sea of rich saturation of dark and light blue colors, a feminine form gracefully traverses the expanse of the water. Alex Sher’s “Anesthesia” invites us into an abstracted alternate reality, the other side of the mirror. As if we were immersed in an aquatic version of Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night”, Sher’s photography masterfully captures a beautiful magical underwater world where rapidly releasing bubbles mirror the cosmos. Calm in her stride, we are left disoriented; does she glide above us or is she trapped below? Original gallery quality archival pigment print signed by the artist. Limited edition of 24. The artwork is furnished with certificate of authenticity, signed by artist with artist's name, edition number, edition limit, and other details. Sher was born in Ukraine and moved to the United States with his family in 1995. Sher started showing his photographs in the early nineties in Kyiv, Ukraine. He was considering himself an emerging artist until one of his pieces was stolen from an exhibition in Kyiv, leading him to the epiphany that his works represented a significant value to the public. Later in US Sher began experimenting with marine wildlife photography and sharply moved toward figurative fine art. His latest artistic innovations blend figurative and abstract photography into forms that could be almost mistaken for abstract paintings. Sher’s underwater photography began to attract extensive interest in 2015. To date, his works have been exhibited in London, Paris, New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and other major cities including the Louvre Museum in Paris. His first solo show was held in 2016 in Los Angeles by Bruce Lurie Gallery. Since his debut, Sher had seven exclusive exhibitions, participated in numerous group exhibitions and prominent art fairs. Sher's photographs are published in 52 magazines articles in 11 countries. His first photo book “Mermaids” has been published in 2018. Sher mastered the profession of underwater coaching. Bringing forth his technical and artistic innovations, he generously shares his techniques with his models and aspiring photographers.

  • W.T.C: Concrete Abstract #8 (Triptych)
    By Shai Kremer
    Located in New York, NY
Israel-born photographer Shai Kremer lives and works in New York. He completed his MFA studies at the School of Visual Arts (S.V.A) in Manhattan. For many years, Kremer's eye has been drawn to themes of urban destruction and reconstruction and to landscapes evidencing trauma. These concerns merged in his ambitious series W.T.C: Concrete Abstract, which explores the impact of the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. For more than a decade, Kremer made periodic visits to Ground Zero, focusing his camera on the efforts towards recovery, repair, and renewal. As a collection, Concrete Abstract conveys the gradual progression from tragedy towards healing. Each large-scale archival pigment print in the series is composed from as many as sixty to 100 overlapping images, resulting in a subtle collage that invites closer inspection while also reading as a unified whole. W.T.C: Concrete Abstract series was shown in the following venues: 9.11 Memorial Museum New York
Museum of the City of New York
The Bronx Museum of the Arts
The Brooklyn Academy of Music Photolux Festival. Lucca, Italy FMoPa. Tampa, USA Julie M. Gallery, Tel Aviv Julie Saul Gallery, New York Robert Koch Gallery...
