Often using her large family and circle of friends as models in her work, Julia is drawn simultaneously to heart-warming intimacy and provocative freedom. Julia Gat, based in France, was home-schooled as a child. Alternative education has played a significant role in her work. Julia is immersed in an artistic milieu in both her native Israel and adopted home in Marseille, France where she has grown up in a family of 6. One theme that threads throughout her entire body of work is an appreciation and concern for the natural environment around us. In Chalk Streams, Davies looks at the delicate ecosystems that are under threat. Chalk streams are a unique ecosystem that house a high biodiversity of plants and creatures. Their cool, fresh waters come from rain that permeates the chalk, filtering it and allowing it to flow through the flinty bedrock and emerge further down slopes as purely clear mineral water.
