About the Item
Pisano captures a rare and intimate moment in which history, restoration, and poetry intersect. In this photograph, Eduardo Rezende frames the statue of Niccola Pisano partially veiled by a protective construction fabric — a material usually associated with work-in-progress sites. The draped cloth, with its soft, tactile texture and flowing folds, creates a striking contrast against the firmness of the carved stone beneath it. This juxtaposition transforms a practical gesture of preservation into a visual dialogue between permanence and impermanence.
Rezende’s composition draws attention to the harmony between the marble drapery sculpted centuries ago and the contemporary textile that now echoes its form. Light glides along both surfaces, merging eras and blurring boundaries: the ancient statue gains a fleeting sense of vulnerability, while the everyday fabric is elevated into something almost ceremonial. By interrupting the expected view of the monument, Véu sobre Pisano invites the viewer to reflect on how even the most iconic cultural symbols undergo cycles of care, renewal, and transformation.
Through this encounter, Rezende reveals the delicate beauty found in transitional states — moments when art, history, and the present moment coexist in quiet tension.
