Over the last 10,000 years, the planet has lost over 1/3rd of its forests, some 5 Million square miles, half of that since the 1900’s. Tree’s are responsible for 3 of every 10 breaths of air we inhale, and provide shelter and habitat for countless species. Simply put, a world without trees would be bleak and inhospitable for terrestrial animals in a whole, they bring balance, beauty and stability to life here. Over the last century humans have cut down half of the planets rainforests for lumber and agricultural habitat. As heat index and drought conditions continue to increase, many trees are facing an ever increased threat of wild fire and access to fresh water. This series focuses on the beauty and hardships of trees around the world. Zooming through a moss covered grove of trees along a small cliff line on the Oregon Coast. The history of the timber industry here is closely intertwined with the state's economic and social development. Oregon, with its abundance of forested land, has historically made it a prime location for logging and the production of wood products dating back to the early 20th century. Today, Oregon remains a major producer of wood products, including lumber, plywood, and paper.
