About the Item
One-of-a-kind silver gelatin print (photogram made sans enlarger); Mixed process multiple exposure with ice, flowers, gold leaf flakes, glitter and more. Printed by hand in my home darkroom. From my Muti-award winning "Metamorphosis" series. Printed February 2022.
I began making photograms with alternate light sources in June 2020, due to having an unfinished darkroom at the time of the shutdown. 5 bodies of work and 2.5 years later, teaching many of my self-invented processes has become my most stable post-covid source of income.
My ongoing "Metamorphosis" series, was my 3rd photogram series since the shutdown; It commenced in early 2021; "What Remains (After the Fire)" was printed in February 2022, just after the last snowfall, which marked my transition into processes with ice. This print is actually the only "Metamorphosis" photogram thus far to be made with gold flakes.
When the title of this print came to me, I couldn't help but see what looked like embers of the fires, which were fresh on my mind, after seeing so many photographs of the fires - and the aftermath, in California and elsewhere out west, those images were practically burned on my brain. This print is in dedication of those who were affected by those terrible fires.
