About the Item

Serenade Gestural photography Intentional Camera Movement The edition size (regardless of the printed size) is 7+2 E.A. each Betty Schmidt is a German artist, her specialty, besides painting, is artistic photography. Her creative journey began in 2000 with painting. Since 2012, her main focus has been on "gestural photography", a technique she is continuously refining. This is the deliberate movement of the camera during the exposure time, also known as "Intentional Camera Movement". Through the combination of long exposure times and gestural body movements, contours are dissolved and merge together, creating literally "painted images" in the camera. The camera acts as her brush, which she directs through her body movements. This leads to fascinating, unique results that cannot be reproduced. Her artworks are printed on high-quality canvas and mounted on stretcher frames to emphasize the painterly character of the photographs. Her artistic vision and unique technique make her photographs distinctive works of art.

Pigment on canvas - Unframed. Edition of 3. The Emanations series is an attempt to express the spiritual potential of the most essential aspect of photography: light. Each work in the series began its evolution as a scanned image of a Buddhist thangka—a spiritual painting of a Buddhist deity—which was then blurred and stretched until all that remained was a distilled image of color and form. These reduced images were then printed onto canvases, resulting in what Kane refers to as elemental “representations of the light bodies of the Buddhas.” Bill Kane...
