About the Item

Limited Edition Still Life Black and White Photograph " Inner Workings #6 " This is a limited edition black and white still life photograph from the Inner Working series (untitled #6). It was created in my studio and recorded on large format film. I grew up in an environment of invention and engineering, which led me to create photographs using gears, springs and other mechanical objects seems natural. I’m interested in the spirals in springs, the meshing of gears and bends of pipes not for what they are, but what they could be when combined as elements of a new image. The elements objects in the photograph need to work like the parts of the well-oiled machines they once were, but now the precision is visual. Forgetting what the parts are or how they functioned in the past, they now become partially abstracted shapes, which invite viewer imagination. To me, this makes an image that continually engages the viewer’s interest and doesn’t tire over time. 25 photographs make up the Inner Working series photographed on large format film. About: Lewis’ artistic practice often explores science, engineering, technology, and innovation. His intention is to create work that communicates the importance of the search for truth based on science and how the physical world looks and works. The images engage physics, mechanics and creative thinking that often evokes an innovation process. Many photographs are abstract or still life however, he also has a strong affinity for the environment, reflected in his photographs that often include elements of water and sky. Lewis started photographing when he was a teenager and continued through film school. He went on to work for many years as an advertising and editorial photographer where he photographed for international clients like Taylor Wines and General Foods. Lewis’ fine art photographs have been exhibited in galleries and cultural centers internationally, including the Gladstone Regional Museum and Gallery in Queensland, Australia, Florida Museum of Photographic Arts in Tampa; the James A.
