About the Item
This 16" x 13" black and white vintage photograph captures the side profile of an indigenous South American woman. The portrait is a 3/4 length portrait, depicting the figure from just above the knee and up, with her head positioned just slightly below the top of the print. The figure is positioned on the left side of the composition looking straight on, but is facing the right side, showing the viewer her side profile. She appears to be lost in conversation as her mouth is slightly ajar, and her eyes seem to be focused on someone or something not captured within the composition. The woman leans her back upon a wall crossing her arms as she leans against the wall, capturing a candid and informal stance and highlighting the fact that she seems to be preoccupied and unaware of the photographer. Her hair is in a long braid that reaches her lower back and is intertwined with cloth. The woman wears a dress with the common textile patterns found in the clothing of South American culture and an apron is wrapped around her waist. In the background is a table with a weaving instrument suggesting she is resting from her work at the machine. Another figure's hand emerges from the right side of the photograph and is placed upon the table depicted in the background, creating a sense of mystery and imagination.
The contrast of the darkness of the weaving room and the white ribbon and apron of the woman is striking in its composition. The print is framed in a black wooden frame.

- 'Outdoor Street Scene', by Sonya Terpening, Watercolor on PaperBy Sonya TerpeningLocated in Oklahoma City, OKSonya Terpening's framed watercolor on paper painting titled 'Outdoor Street Scene' captures a calm scene outside of a cafe. The dining table depicted in the work becomes the focal point when observing this piece, as it is placed in the foreground and captures the eye with a vivid blue table cloth; on the table are four glasses placed upside-down and what appears to be a sugar and salt shaker. Terpening's realistic style is exemplified in her depiction of the table; the blue cloth's folds and wrinkles, and the heavy use of shadows and lighting on the table cloth, chairs, and glasses all contribute to the realistic qualities of the piece. The table is positioned on a red brick sidewalk/street directly outside of the cafe, which is also brick but painted white. The cafe door...Category
