Roxanne Lowit is known for her backstage photography of famous faces and wild parties. The iconic supermodels of the 90s grace several of Lowit's Works. This photo was taken in the backstage area of the Yves Saint Laurent fashion show in 1993. The iconic supermodel Kate Moss is sitting at a vanity, having her hair and makeup just done. The model’s big hairclip and earring sparkle in the camera's flashlight as she turns around to face the camera. The big, poofy dress with a pink and green floral print contrasts with the red chair Kate sits in and dominates the image. The flashlight optics, the glamorous outfit of the model, and the snapshot aesthetic lend the image a secret, forbidden feel. The viewer is allowed into an otherwise private area, making the beautiful portrait all the more exciting.
Daring poses, red lips, crooked smiles, and sex appeal characterize the photographic oeuvre of the late Roxanne Lowit. Catapulting us straight back into a decade of excess and ecstasy, her unfiltered lens into the 90s reveals more than ever.
