About the Item

Nicholas Pye is a photographer and filmmaker based in Canada. After 10 years of working together as artist team Nicholas & Sheila Pye, Nicholas has developed a solo body of work entitled "Rise And Fall." A limited edition artist book accompanies this body of work. This color photograph presents one of the many settings Pye uses to perform occasionally in the work. He frequently uses poetic and historic villas, fields, chateaus, and houses as backgrounds to situate his body or the eye of the camera. Pye often conjures a dream-like state in which "all is permitted, the rules have been unbuttoned and loosed. In his world, the imagination is boundless and surreal." "Whether nude or clothed, Pye favours bare feet in his photos from the 'Rise and Fall' series. The removal of shoes permit a return to a state of innocence, where play is unfettered by the rigidities of the wide-awake world. In a twilight, dream-state, all is permitted, the rules having been unbuttoned and loosed.
