Dye Transfer. Housed in a custom frame; outer dimensions measure 22.5 x 32.5 x 2.25 inches. Image measures 13.5 x 22.25 inches. Provenance: Payton-Rule Gallery (Presently operating as Rule Gallery), Denver Private Collection, Colorado (acquired from the above, 1990) By descent to the present owner Numbered 8 of 25 by the artist. This is from the original series, True Fiction, ©1986. The full edition of 25 was not completed as the Kodak Company cancelled the production of the dye transfer materials that were used in the original printing. The photographs from Skoglund's original series, "True Fiction One," were taken in black and white; in the darkroom, she added color. Skoglund spent several months working on the designs for the finished artwork before she cut and assembled the various pieces from the prints in accordance with designs Lastly, the completed collages were rephotographed by Skoglynd with her 8x10 camera to complete a uniform, final image. Skoglund's commented as follows on the process, "I wanted them to feel magical in a way, as if they could have been a single picture at some point."
