About the Item
Vintage black and white photo of the Mausoleum of August. In the centuries, the Mausoleum has undertaken numerous changes, starting from 1800, when it was transformed in a theatre. When the Mausoleum became property of the Count Telfener, he covered it with a glass dome. In 1907 it became a concert hall, called Auditorium Augusteo. The glass dome, as well as the buildings around it, were destroyed in 1936, when the government decided to give back the Mausoleum the original appearence of Imperial grave.
