About the Item

This one-of-a-kind alt process landscape (photogram) was actually just made during my recent artist residency, which concluded in September; I was 4 unique silver gelatin prints into my "The Many Rings of Saturn" series when the residency began; I completed the series less than 5 weeks later. Mixed process triple exposure with ice, sand, glitter, flowers, and wax. (Printed August 2022). I began making photograms in June 2020, due to having an unfinished darkroom at the time; Prior to covid, I was primarily known for my limited edition (film-based) silver gelatin spiritual landscapes. Over the past 2.5+ years, I have not only invented and refined a number of new processes and created more than 4 bodies of cameraless work (as well as became pretty well known for my experimental photograms), but the more materials I brought into the darkroom with me, from nature, the more my photograms began to morph into alt process landscapes... With the inclusion of snow as photogram material in February 2022, I began taking that a step further. One month later, my "Fire & Ice" series was born; "The Many Rings of Saturn is a sub-series, or a sister series, to that body of work, which is currently ongoing, and focuses on my newest processes with ice and ice-concoctions, among other materials. This handmade darkroom print also happens to be an ice-rubbing photogram (which left quite a few interesting marks behind). As you may have noticed, my titles are an important aspect of my spiritual artwork; In the case of my photograms, I actually don't even decide on orientation of these abstract black-and-white darkroom prints until the titles come to me (based on what I see in the prints). [video is available upon request; I had posted one here, purely so you could see close ups of the details throughout these unique prints, but the system rejected them, was probably confused by things like sand that don't show up as sharp details via iPhone, etc.]

[All of my prints are signed and dated on the back; film-based prints are editioned as well.] Printed August 2022; Made without the use of a camera. • Flower Implosion - black and white contemporary abstract flowers photograph

I began making photograms with alternate light sources in 2020, due to having an unfinished darkroom at the time of the shutdown. (Fortunately, the wet side was nearly complete just prior and I had a ton of old European sized Forte in my paper safe to experiment with). "Into the Ether" was my first in-depth body of cameraless work, which was completed at the end of the year. All of my images are essentially subconscious self-portraits which reveal themselves during my printing processes (that applies to both film-based prints and unique darkroom darkroom prints made without the use of a camera). This award-winning series took shape while in the height of covid-based isolation. However, making the work led to my now current occupation, as I now specialize in experimental photograms and teach some of my processes. "Flower Implosion" was one of my first sparkler exposures involving moving water; Made with flowers and water, this triple exposed sparkler-o-gram debuted via an online exhibition...

"Within Reach" - Unique silver gelatin print (mixed process photogram); Made with ice, flowers, sand, glitter, and more. BRAND NEW, printed on Fomatone MG 133, a beautiful, slightly textured chamois paper, in April 2023. [This one-of-a-kind black-and-white photograph is a slightly weird size, as it was made with a sheet of paper that had previously been cut for a test strip. The width is actually 8 1/16"] After falling into photography by way of eastern religions a lifetime ago, the latter quickly found its way into my work, and never left. I think of both my (covid-born) cameraless photographs and my film-based silver gelatin prints as subconscious self-portraits or spiritual landscapes...
