About the Item

Roger Grasas is a photographer originally from Barcelona, Spain winner of "Descubrimientos" (Discovery) award of PhotoEspaña. Since the beginning of his career he has participated as a photographer in a variety of documentaries and cooperative projects for NGOs, including UNESCO. His work has been exhibited in various galleries around the world: Spain, France, USA, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, among others. Roger's work is an extensive reflection about post-modernity presented in a travel-documentary format. All his photographs revolve around the contradictions and transformations that modernity and technology created in our surrounding spaces; and the way in which the human being is able to assimilate and project these confusing changes into his or her social habitat. The latest series of Roger Grasas, “Ha Aretz” is an exploration of biblical sites, created over seven years, in ancient locations across Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. “Ha Aretz” is the winner series of the “Descubrimientos” (Discovery) award of Photo España, the most important photography price in Spain. The series recalls biblical landscapes, photographed in juxtaposition to contemporary conditions, such as globalisation, tourism, consumerism, and the aftermath of war.
