His long connection to the world of celebrity has given him access to many iconic film stars, artists, actors, and writers of our time—particularly those who make up the creative culture of Southern California and with ties to Palm Springs. His subjects have included Andy Warhol, David Hockney, E. Stewart Williams, Sissy Spacek, Demi Moore, Ringo Starr, and numerous others. Childers’ father gave him his first camera at age 14. He began to shoot portraits of his friends, provided photographs for his high school newspaper, and early on demonstrated an interest in fashion and film photography. In 1962, he moved to Los Angeles and began studying at UCLA, which at that time had become a major center for art and photography and where he received his degree. To support himself, he began photographing friends, musicians, and actors, and, over time, he met Hollywood golden era film stars, including Norma Shearer, Agnes Moorehead, and Rosalind Russell. -Courtesy of the Palm Springs Art Museum

  • Four unique portraits of classical concert pianist Chau-Giang Thi Nguyen signed
    By Peter Beard
    Located in New York, NY
Peter Beard Portraits of classical concert pianist Concert Pianist Chau-Giang Thi Nguyen in artists frame, 2006 Four (4) separate Chromogenic prints (c-print) in artist's frame. Hand signed Signed and dated boldly in green marker by Peter Beard lower right Original artist's frame included This unique set of four works by the late Peter Beard features Vietnamese concert pianist Chau-Giang Thi Nguyen - one of Beard's muses. Peter Beard is well-known as one of Andy Warhol's friends and artistic collaborators during the Studio 54 and Factory days. But of all his many achievements, including his critically acclaimed wildlife photography, Beard is perhaps best known as the photographer who famously discovered the model Iman in Somalia, and whose images of her helped catapult her to international superstardom. Iman would later marry rock star David Bowie. In a similar vein, this set of intimate, posed photographic portraits depicts Vietnamese concert pianist Chau-Giang Thi Nguyen (also known as Cho-San Nguyen), founder of the American Vietnamese Friendship Organization (AVFO). Taken in 2006, the works show her seductively posing against a stylized backdrop of portraits of famous composers. In addition to her musical accomplishments and charitable ventures, Cho-San Nguyen is also quite the socialite herself, and in those years, she frequently appeared in the tabloids for a different reason: she was rumored to be one of the many alleged mistresses (or muses) of the very married, and very influential Google billionaire Eric Schmidt...

Alec Soth Monica, Warsaw. 2018 Image size: 24 x 20 inches Frame size: 27 x 23 x 2 inches Edition 10 of 30 Signed on artist signature label Artist biography - (American, b.1969) is a photographer who is best known for photographing the Midwestern United States. He lives in Minneapolis, MN, which is also the city of his birth, although he relocated to Bronxville, NY, for his studies at Sarah Lawrence College. Soth's early work include a self-published book of portrait and landscape photographs entitled Sleeping by the Mississippi, which was the result of his travels along the Mississippi River. This book won him much attention from art critics, who said that his photographs conveyed a strong sense of intimacy with the landscape. His photograph Charles, which shows a man standing on the roof of his house with a model airplane in each hand, was used as a poster for the 2004 Whitney Biennial show, in which Soth's works were exhibited. Soth, who was extremely shy during childhood and adolescence, was driven to start photographing people after being influenced by the work of portrait photographer Diane Arbus. He has said in interviews that he feels awkward approaching people and asking to take their photographs, and that he feels drawn to loners, hermits, and travelers as the subjects of his work. After his initial success with Sleeping by the Mississippi, Soth went on to publish a second photography book in 2006 entitled Niagara. For this work, he photographed people and places around Niagara Falls. He has since then produced two more books, Last Days of W and From Here to There: Alec Soth's America. He has also produced commissioned work for The New York Times Magazine. Soth's work is included in a number of permanent collections, including those at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. He is represented by the Weinstein Gallery...
