About the Item

A square pink, white, and green hand-painted photographic lift print of a Peony flower by Anne Muller. Part of the "Flower Series," this piece demonstrates Muller's attentive photography, focus on texture and materiality, as well as her eye for color. Muller captures a single Peony in a calm and still moment, before transferring her photograph onto paper, a process which adds unique creasing and wrinkling that perfectly complements the flower's petals. Finally, Muller paints over the photographic transfer, imbuing the flower with beautiful brushwork and enhanced color. This elegant mixed-media work is in excellent condition, and comes framed behind glass. The work is hand-signed by the artist. Muller was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and began drawing and painting at a young age, eventually finding work as a professional watercolor portrait painter. After traveling the American West, Muller became interested in American pioneers, and paid them homage through unique acrylic paintings embedded with antique fabrics, photographs, and printed materials. Muller is always exploring new media and new subject matter, seen in work like "The Awareness Project," a long-running collection of documentary photography highlighting poverty and marginalization in the Jackson Hole community. Muller currently lives in Jackson Hole, in a house she designed herself, as she continues to experiment in photography, painting, and textile work.
