Robert Kushner born 1949, Pasadena, CA is an American contemporary painter who is known especially for his involvement in Pattern and Decoration. He has been called "a founder" of that artistic movement. In addition to painting, Kushner creates installations in a variety of mediums, from large-scale public mosaics to delicate paintings on antique book pages.
Robert Kushner participated in the early development of the Pattern and Decoration Movement in the 1970s, and is known for championing a decorative style of painting. “I never get tired of pursuing new ideas in the realm of ornamentation,” he said. “Decoration, an abjectly pejorative dismissal for many, is a very big, somewhat defiant declaration for me.” Artisanal objects the artist discovered in his travels abroad particularly Japanese screen doors, Islamic patterns, and Uzbekistani embroideries strongly affected the development of his organic plant forms, grid-based compositions, and use of bold colors and gold leaf. He was also strongly influenced by Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, Gustav Klimt, and the French Nabis painters. Since the 1980s, flowers and leaves have become Kushner’s signature motif.

Robert Kushner
Kushner's work has been exhibited extensively in the United States, Europe, and Japan and has been included in the Whitney Biennial and the Biennale in Venice. He was the subject of solo exhibitions at both the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Brooklyn Museum. A mid-career retrospective of his work was organized by the Philadelphia Institute of Contemporary Art. Kushner's works are included in many prominent public collections including The Museum of Modern Art, NY; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; The Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; The National Gallery of Art, DC; The Corcoran Gallery of Art, DC; Tate Gallery, London; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu; The Denver Art Museum; Galleria degli Ufizzi, Florence; J. About the artist-
Yona Lotan (1926-1998) Jewish engineer and painter was born in Lithuania.
His family moved to Tel-Aviv, Palestine in 1936. He served as a high-ranking officer in the Israeli Army and fought in the War of Independence. In 1959 Yona Lotan began painting; he's considered a self-taught, outsider artist.
Lotan always had the unquenchable desire to draw. His one-man shows in Israel and Geneva were so successful that he left the army, sold all his belongings and moved to Paris in 1960 in order to devote his life to painting.
His art was vibrant and he became well known, not only in Europe, but also in the United States.
In 1965 he won the coveted Prize of Foreign Painting given by the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris.
Along with Maryan, Avigdor Arikha, Mordechai Ardon and Yaacov Agam. he was part of a group of Jewish emigre
artists who worked in Paris.

Nancy Graves (December 23, 1939 – October 21, 1995) was an American woman sculptor, painter, printmaker, and sometime-filmmaker known for her focus on natural phenomena like camels or maps of the moon. Her works are included in many public collections, including those of the National Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C.), the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Gallery of Australia (Canberra), Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), and the Museum of Fine Arts (St. Petersburg). When Graves was just 29, she was given a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art. At the time she was the youngest artist, and fifth woman to achieve this honor.
Graves was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Her interest in art, nature, and anthropology was fostered by her father, an accountant at a local museum. After graduating from Vassar College in English Literature, Graves attended Yale University, where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees.
