Cae Orangután, 2019 by Tahuanty Jacanamijoy Linographing on Rosaspina of cotton paper 285G. Sheet size: 57 cm H x 40 cm W Image size: 45.5 cm H x 30.4 cm W Edition of 30 Unframed Signed by the artist These are original graphic works of Tahuanty Jacanamijoy. The technique used is linoleum: the paper is Rosaspina of 285 gr cotton from the Fabriano house. The edition was carried out in the high relief workshops of the Taller Arte Dos Grafico. In Bogota Colombia. In this series of prints, the primates represent a mirror because they inhabit a unique space between the animal and the human being. We can see ourselves reflected in the behaviors of the animals but at the same time we distance ourselves for fear of losing what makes us "a superior species." This series is perhaps an invitation to renew affection and intimacy in the other, as an act of love. ____________ In my work, I speculate about the origin of certain daily practices, astrological events, or fictional stories. The scenes I draw arise from visions in conversations with sacred plants like Yagé, or from pictorial interpretations I make of my multifaceted identity. This search has led me to recognize myself as the meeting place of different worlds, such as the tradition inherited from my father as an Inga and my mother as a Wayuu and Arhuaca, and the socio-economic and cultural hyperactivity that I experience as a man in the Colombian capital. The scenes that I capture on paper or canvas are allegorical stories that I decide to carry with a feeling of joyful melancholy to give a personal and unique meaning to the condition of the contemporary human being. Tahuanty Jacanamijoy has participated in exhibitions since 2014, including a solo show. He was recognized and awards for his graduate work. He has a master's degree in animation from the Royal College of Art, London.
