He was born in Barcelona in 1923 and began his artistic career in the 1940s. Tàpies' artwork often incorporated unconventional materials and techniques, such as using waste materials, mud, and sand in his paintings. He developed a distinctive style characterized by a rough and textured surface, often marked with gestural brushstrokes and symbolic motifs.
