D*Face
D*FACE Peace Gun (Silver Artist Proof)

2001

About the Item

Gorgeous D*Face Peace Gun Print with great message. Super rare Silver Artist Proof from an edition of only 10. Hand signed by D*Face on bottom right of print. Stamped with artist logo as well as his gallery stamp on bottom left. Marked in pencil with AP and edition number on bottom left as well. D*Face also painted a very large mural in Las Vegas featuring the Peace Gun in 2015. Hand pulled 7 color Screenprint on heavy stock paper. Released in 2015. Artists proofs are also known as AP’s and are even more limited than the standard edition release. Typically, they do not exceed 10% of the standard edition. They may be created for numerous reasons such as: for the artists personal use, as a working trial of the print or object etc. They are typically exactly the same as the final edition but sometimes can vary by design and color with changes different from the standard release edition. Due to their scarcity, they typically do not come up often for sale. RELATED: Invader, KAWS, Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Blek Le Rat, Cleon Peterson, Futura, Dran, Faile, Kunstasen, Mr. Brainwash, Zedsy, Swoon, D*Face, Koons, Contemporary Art, Graffiti, Hirst, Urban Art.

Although the exact location is unclear, both agree that it would have been at either Fashion Moda or the Writers’ Bench at 149th Street and Grand Concourse. Founded by Stefan Eins in 1978, Fashion Moda began as a “cultural concept” whose principles revolved around the fact that art can be made by anyone, anywhere and art should be accessible to anyone, anywhere. Located in the South Bronx, Fashion Moda embraced new talent and encouraged creative production across all mediums. The gallery has been credited as a major force behind the recognition of graffiti writing as an art form and it played a pivotal role in a community where Hip Hop was rapidly emerging. CRASH was only 19 years old when he curated “Graffiti Art Success for America” at Fashion Moda and his varied experiences at the gallery would later inspire his founding of WALLWORKS.
