Elvira Bach is a German painter and sculptor best known for her colorful self-portraits. Her work is distinctly stylized and deconstructs her identity and femininity into form, concept, and iconography. She is inspired by her own life, flowers, her sons, friends and simply being part of the world. Along with painters such as Bernd Zimmer, Albert Oehlen, and Martin Kippenbergerhe, Bach is a prominent member of the contemporary German artist collective Junge Wilde. She was born in Neuenhain, Germany, on June 22, 1951, and attended Berlin University of the Arts.
