About the Item

Esao Andrews grew up in the Arizona desert, and moved to New York in 1996 to complete his BFA in Illustration at the School of Visual Arts. After graduating in 2000, he spent the next few years working as a flash animator while painting in his free time. Andrews exhibited his oil paintings in coffee shops and group shows before landing his first major two-person show at Fuse Gallery in New York alongside John John Jesse in 2003. He has since collaborated with Tara McPherson for a DC Comics project, and has created album artwork for several bands, as well. Esao Andrews has developed a signature cast of dark and surreal characters, blending erotic and sometimes frightening surrealistic images, in a manner that is often compared with other American artists like Mark Ryden and John Currin. Andrews participated in the 2002 BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London and cites Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Alfons Mucha, and Joe Sorren as major influences. By Yang Dongying

Pop Style- Limited Edition Abstract Prints - Spring Rosy Clouds #10 The piece is signed and numbered, limited edition of 99 A.P About Spring Rosy Clouds The highly conceptual series has drawn materials from the rocks of Chinese Gardens. Garden rocks, viewed as mountains -the larger world of nature in microcosm, often supplanted actual scenery as sources of inspiration for images of landscape. Whether it’s garden design or Chinese landscape painting, one of the most important considerations is the harmonious arrangement of elements expressing different aspects of yin( metaphor of feminity) and yang(metaphor of masculinity). In this series, the artist uses digital techniques to combine the image of flower (feminity) and rocks (masculinity), expressing the vitality of life. Behind the simple lines lie an outstanding creating ability of lines that have long set the artist apart. The pink color, along with the implied meaning of Spring in the title of work suggests implicitly the repressed sexual concept in East, revealing in a moderate tone the artist’s insight about contemporary Chinese culture.
