About the Item

This artwork titled "Trumpeteers" 1976 is an original wood engraving by Russian/American artist Leon Gilmour, 1907-1996. It is hand signed, titled, dated and numbered 4/100 in pencil by the artist. The block mark (image) size is 5.5 x 3.85 inches, framed size is 19 x 16.75 inches. It is custom framed in a wooden black and gold frame, with fabric matting and gold color bevel. The artwork is in excellent condition, the frame is in good condition, it has some loss of the gold leaf especially on the top and some minor dents. An example of this artwork is in the permanent collection of the San Jose Art Museum, California. About the artist: Leon Gilmour was born on 25 July 1907 in Riga, Russia (now part of Latvia). He emigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in March 1916, at the age of nine. Early in his career he studied at the School of Practical Art in Boston. Gilmour held a series of labor jobs in order to support himself, including working as a: construction worker in New York City, field hand in the Midwest, gold miner in Colorado, and as a truck driver in Los Angeles, California. In 1931, Gilmour moved to Los Angeles to attend Otis College of Art and Design and studied wood engraving with artist Paul Landacre. In 1933 he worked for Public Works of Art Project and later for the through the succeeding government program, the Federal Art Project (FAP). He taught classes at the University of Southern California and had later careers as a designer, illustrator, and art director. In 1951, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to act as art director for the H.S. Crocker Lithography Company. He was a member of the American Artist's Congress. Leon Gilmour's artwork is featured in many public art collections and museums, including: Smithsonian American Art Museum; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) within the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts department, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, National Gallery of Art, Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, San Jose Museum of Art, Columbus Museum of Art, New Britain Museum of American Art, Flint Institute of Arts, and many others.

This artwork titled "Bouquet" c.1990 is a original color lithograph on Arches paper by noted American artist Gary Bukovnik, born 1947. It is unsigned. The image size is 39.75 x 12 inches, sheet size is 41.5 x 18.25 inches. It is in excellent condition, the colors are fresh and bright, has never been framed. About the artist. Born and educated in Cleveland Gary Bukovnik has lived in San Francisco for over 25 years. Primarily using the mediums of watercolor, monotype, and lithograph, Bukovnik creating colorful floral images of great depth and intensity. Bukovnik collaborates with Trillium Press, whose owner and master printer, David Salgado, studied at the Tamarind Workshop, formerly in Los Angeles. In 2003, the American Academy in Rome invited Bukovnik to attend the academy as a Visiting Artist for six weeks. He was asked to attend a second session in February 2005. In 2001, he was selected to create a poster for the prestigious List Collection, which creates posters to commemorate programs at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York. Lincoln Center past contributors have included Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Alex Katz, Elizabeth Murray, and Donald Sultan. The work of Gary Bukovnik is held in public and private collections worldwide.
