About the Item

Colorful abstract landscape woodcut print by modern artist Carol Summers. The work features a color blocked depiction of a volcano with a rainbow. Signed, titled, and editioned within the work. Currently hung in a metallic silver floating frame. Dimensions Without Frame: H 37.13 in. x W 24.75 in. Artist Biography: Carol Summers born in 1925 in New York, he is widely known for his works created from woodcuts. He recived his bachelors of arts from Bard College in 1951. He studied with Stefen Hirsch and Louis Schanker. His process of print making was dubbed the "Carol Summers Technique." He would soak large blocks of wood in ink than placed the patterns on one side of the paper in order to create shapes visible from the other side of the paper. Summer's work is shown in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. He died at the age of 90 in 2016 in his home in California.
