Rare early 19th Century lithograph laid on india paper, hand colored aquatint print, titled "Beech Trees in the Grounds of St. Leonards Hill, Berks, Seat of Field Marshall Earl Harcourt" by Henry William Burgess (English, 1809-1860) From the edition printed in 1827, published by J. Dickins, Eidodendron : views of the general character and appearance of trees foreign and indigenous connected with picturesque scenery. Burgess, Henry W. (Author) Hullmandel, Charles Joseph (1789-1850) (Printer).
Burgess and Hullmandel were among the earliest practitioners of lithography in England. Henry William Burgess also became landscape painter to William IV of England. Image,15"H x 11"L.

The engraving, with later hand-coloring, shows the cabin and ship of the Dutch arctic expedition of Barentsz on Novaya Zemlya (Nova Zembla), with the party being attacked (and in some cases apparently eaten) by bears and wolves. Dutch explorer, Willem Barentsz, reached the west coast of Novaya Zemlya in 1594, and in a subsequent expedition of 1596 rounded the northern point and wintered on the northeast coast. Barentsz died during the expedition, and may have been buried on the northern island. This artwork is a page from a book by 17th century cartographer and engineer, Allain Manesson Mallet (French, 1630-1706), "Description de L'Univers, contenant les differents systêmes du monde, les cartes générals et particulières de la géographie ancienne et modern." Powerful Large Cibachrome Photograph of the St Regis River, Adirondacks, New York by Nathan Farb (American, B- 1941). Working with a large 8" x 10" View Camera Nathan began a journey to really photograph his home in the mountains is his own way, rich in vibrant with exceptional detail. Cibachrome prints are a type of dye destruction print that use a photographic process to create a full-color image. The process involves selectively bleaching away color dyes embedded in the paper. The dyes are contained within emulsion layers, which give the print its characteristic color saturation. The base is a polyester triacetate, rather than fiber-based paper, which adds to the print's longevity Image, 29"H x 37"W Sheet, 30"H x 40"W x .05 Unmounted and unframed. Can be shipped rolled. Includes book "The Adirondacks" which contains similar photographs by the artist. In 1981, Farb returned to his childhood home in the Adirondack Mountains to recharge himself, spending a lot of time in the woods. Over the next 20 years, he produced three books published by Rizzoli cataloguing many of his finest 8”x10” negatives. That work has been excerpted by close to 100 magazines including The NY Times Magazine. NY Times Magazine then sent him to document the Exxon oil spill and the Yellowstone Fires, and to the Galapagos Islands twice. Searching for both his past and future, Nathan Farb bought his first camera and started shooting on the streets of NYC’s Lower East Side in 1966.
