About the Item

Signed and dated in pencil, inscribed " Ed 100 I." In excellent condition, except for tape remains at upper margin corners on verso. Also called South Portal of The Collegiate Church of San Isidor, Leon. Spanish Church Series #10. The inscription on plate is " Collegialis Ecclesiae- Leonensis regi Isidoro sancto dedicatae meridiano de latere exsciipta est haec imago C Anno Domini MLXLIX" within panel. Initials "J.T.A" outside panel in lower left. Arms was known for the amazing detail in his etchings, achieved by using being endless and magnifying glasses to get a fine level of detail on his architectural prints. He had a successful career as a graphic artist in the 1920s and 1930s, specializing in series of etchings of Gothic churches and cathedrals in France and Italy. A member of many printmaking societies, Arms served as president of the American Society of Graphic Artists, and his work is in museums throughout the world.
