Mary Lightfoot
Mary Lightfoot, Street Scene in Taos

1940

About the Item

Mary Lightfoot was born in Ravenna, Texas. She studied at the College of Industrial Arts in Denton and the North Texas State Teachers College prior to receiving a master of arts degree from Columbia University. Her entire teaching career was with the Dallas Public School system; she summered in Europe or Taos. The last years of her life were spent in Paris, Texas. This lithograph, Street Scene, Taos, reflects that relaxed, summer vacation attitude. Signed, titled, and numbered, in pencil, and dated in the margin. Annotation in margin by another hand “American Indian Woman – Dallas – Texas.” (There's no other reason to think that this is correct.)
