April 2016, saw the launch of a new collection of work from world renowned photographer PAUL ROBINSON hailed by the New York Press as the Helmut Newton of the photography world’s new Brat Pack. The collection – ‘UNMASKED – the musings of the modern mind spearheads a new genre in portraiture with the use of paintography – the marriage of photography and paint. Paul’s new collection aims to lay bare the inner thoughts of his subjects stripping away the veneer of the selfie generation. In an era where images of ourselves are self selected, edited and filtered, UNMASKED portrays the individual at their most vulnerable. Taken in locations all over the world with real people as the heroes of the images, this collection of work brings nationalities together through a common bond – faces that reveal the inner emotions of the modern mind – haunting, unapologetic yet also serene and beautiful. Finding inspiration in his travels around the world, Paul Robinson regularly showcases his work internationally and “UNMASKED” is a collection which continues in the same vein as his previous body of art - often described as aggressive, sexual and morally transgressive. Past collections include “VOYEUR which became one of most talked about in L.A. and New York with acclaim from a virtual who's who of the creative community. Combining a varied collection of black and white photos, the series featured celebrity portraits of the young hot actors of today shot in a 1940s style, a jazz series of intimate moments with legendary musicians, and original, definitive images. Robinson followed this up with Manfleur, another huge success in which he used human subjects as props, intertwined with exotic flowers. E! Entertainment produced several segments, chronicling the eighteen months of shooting he did for the exhibit. Subsequent collections have included LOVEEVERLAST, a black, white and colored interpretation of love, REFLECTIONS, capturing the moods of cities around the world, IN CAMERA, presenting multiple exposures, combining images of architecture, textures, and portraits on a single frame of film and “TRANSPARENT” printed on transparency, blending different cities and people from disparate locales such as Paris, Hong Kong, and L.A.and where he first introduced the idea of paintography as a seamless hybrid of photography and painting. Each collection has received national attention with high profile celebrity partronage from the likes of Renee Zellweger, David Arquette, Natalie Massenet, Melissa Ethridge, BB King and the late great Sydney Pollack who said: “Every beautiful and dreamlike piece he creates also happens to be 100% painstakingly handmade. Never ceasing to make art that is ground-breaking and thought-provoking, Paul Robinson continues to stand as a beacon of innovation and creativity for art enthusiasts across the world.” Without formal training, Robinson began as a self-taught fashion photographer in Paris. After carving out a name for himself within the art community, Paul then parlayed his work shooting stills of Oprah for various commercials into doing unit photography on various feature films. Through his work in the film industry, Robinson became recognized as one of the most talented celebrity portrait photographers and was featured in some of the market's top magazines including Details, Detour, Elle, Interview, Flaunt, George, Live, Out, House & Garden, and Architectural Digest.
