Zaria Forman
Greenland #62

About the Item

ABOUT THIS PIECE: "In August, 2012, I led an Arctic art expedition called Chasing the Light aboard the Wanderbird up the NW coast of Greenland. It was the second expedition to this area whose mission was to create art inspired by the dramatic geography. The first was in 1869, led by the American painter William Bradford. This body of work documents climate change through art. In a deeper sense, this series addresses the concept of saying goodbye on both a personal and global level. My mother, Rena Bass Forman, had conceived the idea for the voyage, but sadly did not live to see it through. During the months of her illness her dedication to the expedition never wavered and I promised to carry out her final journey. In Greenland, I scattered her ashes amongst crackling ice diamonds, on the towering peak of one of earth's oldest stones and under the green glow of northern lights. She is now a part of the landscape she loved so much. I am deeply grateful for the team of talented artists and scholars and the Wanderbird captains and crew for helping me carry out her wishes and realize her dream. My hope is that these drawings bring awareness, and invite viewers to share the urgency in a hopeful and meaningful way. Art can facilitate a deeper understanding of any crisis, helping us find meaning and optimism in shifting landscapes." - Zaria Forman ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Inspired by childhood trips through the Arctic and other remote, isolated lands, Zaria Forman draws powerfully poignant images of our evolving earth. Documenting evidence of climate change, Forman allows the epic beauty of the ocean and ice dominate her rhythmic compositions, heralding their ultimate ephemerality. We collaborated with Zaria to create fine art, limited edition prints of her original drawings. Each print is limited edition and fully authenticated by Zaria. Zaria Forman documents climate change with pastel drawings. She travels to remote regions of the world to collect images and inspiration for her work, which is exhibited world-wide. She has flown with NASA on several Operation IceBridge missions over Antarctica, Greenland, and Arctic Canada. She was featured on CBS Sunday Morning, CNN, and ABC7 Eyewitness News. She delivered a TEDTalk, spoke at Amazon, Google, and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, exhibited in Banksy's Dismaland, and was the artist-in-residence aboard the National Geographic Explorer, in Antarctica. Her works have been in publications such as the New York Times T Magazine, National Geographic Proof Blog, Huffington Post, and the Smithsonian Magazine. Forman currently works and resides in Brooklyn, NY, and is represented by Winston Wächter Fine Art in New York, NY and Seattle, WA. PACKAGING: 30x40" and 40x60" prints are shipped in a special fortified tube to guard against bending or damage. Framed 30x40" prints are shipped via FedEx in a bespoke cardboard box with a fitted interior armature for the frame. We do not frame the extra large, 40x60" print sizes because they are too large to ship without risking damage. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: We ship unframed prints internationally via DHL. The international shipping cost does not include the tax & duties, which will be the responsibility of the customer. Unfortunately, because of the high shipping cost we do not ship framed prints internationally at this time.

  • LOOK UP Fireweed
    Located in New York, NY
ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Project: "Look Up" In 2019, ArtStar proposed to ET Projects an opportunity to create fine art, limited edition prints which would capture the memory of our events. We are excited by the prospect of printed imagery keeping alive the joy, camaraderie, and hope experienced under our umbrellas. ET Projects, a 501(c)3, was created in 2018 with the vision to bring communities together through the magic of art and nature. Shoreline Project was the first large scale immersive art experience launched in partnership with the Laguna Art Museum, in Laguna Beach, CA. The second venue was to be Vientienne, Laos, along the edge of the Mekong. Postponed by Covid-19, ET Projects reinvented and in 2020 and launched Project: “Look Up” in partnership with Mt. San Antonio Gardens. The images are of bold, resilient plants, each with a unique story of nature overcoming adversity. Spearheaded by Elizabeth Turk, an artist known primarily as a sculptor of marble, she expanded her portfolio to include public art experiences through ET Projects. A native to Southern California, she is a MacArthur Fellow, an Annalee & Barnett Newman Foundation and Joan Mitchell recipient. Her work has been represented by Hirschl and Adler...

"Burnt Place" - After the fire swept through, the forest was left scorched and barren. The ground is still warm and the unstirring air is thick with the scent of charred wood. Scorched, lifeless pines stand solemn and mournful in the shadows of the Burnt Place. About the Twilight's Path project: "We spend our lives surrounded by the security of possessions, relationships and roles, but our futures hold nothing so substantial; one day we must all enter into true not- knowing - into a dark, unconscious place." Jasper Goodall...
