Patty deGrandpre
"Life is Full", abstract, landscape, blue, white, yellow, pink, mixed media

2019

About the Item

Patty deGrandpre’s “Life is Full” is a 11 x 14 inch predominately blue, white, and yellow mixed media unique inkjet print on Red River 60lb. Polar Matte Photo paper. 30 digital picture “negatives” offer multiple views of fragments of buildings and landscapes. The images appear abstract as an overlay of radiant yellow dominates the bottom quarter of the print. Pops of pink, green and black overlay the grid of intermixing blue and turquoise tones. This print is part of deGrandpre’s “Print, Paint, Print, Repeat” series where she combines using both her Epson inkjet printer and layers of block printing ink. Alternating the two mediums in layers creates works that embrace shifts in color and shape. The subtle variations that occur when the same image is printed twice create an intriguing visual vibration. Patty deGrandpre embraces technology and enjoys using scanned and digital imagery in combination with traditional printmaking techniques. She prints on smooth surfaces such as photo paper and drafting film. The ink sits on top of the media creating greater contrast. Patty deGrandpre is a Massachusetts based artist. She has participated in many exhibitions both on local and national levels. She has been featured in a number of periodicals and has received multiple awards for both fine art and printmaking. Patty DeGrandpre is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

  • "The Beauty on the Way There", abstract, landscape, blue, black, grey, red
    By Patty deGrandpre
    Located in Natick, MA
Patty deGrandpre’s “The Beauty on the Way There” is a predominately turquoise blue, black, grey, and red contemporary abstract landscape represented on a 16 x 20 x 2 inch “Ampersand Claybord” block embracing creative photography, mixed media, and collage. Snapshots of a Western United States highway and it’s vast scenic surroundings are printed on Awagami Bamboo Japanese paper in both black and white as well as monochromatic red. The prints are cropped and combined with thoughtfully shaped monoprint fragments and collaged onto smooth fields of turquoise and grey hued water based block printing ink. The graphic design approach to this modern composition is appreciated as the viewer recognizes a glimpse through a car window of distant mountains and roadside terrain. A rectangular red and blue print reminiscent of vintage floral wallpaper...
