About the Item

Work by Alicia Wiencek (Mrs. Edward Fiene) is generally extremely scarce. This print comes up from time to time and was made an actual edition (of 8) at a time when many artists didn't even bother to number. Here there are all the bells and whistles: clean sheet in good condition and nice inky impression -- even the edges of the lithographic stone are showing (most artists trim the sheet to cut off those edges off). It's wonderful to see them here. It is signed, titled, dated, and numbered in pencil. It is also initialed in the image at the lower left -- in pencil I believe. Wiencek created a sensitive and insightful portrait and treated it with dignity and care. Nearly a century later it is moves us still.
