Alphonse Mucha
Original "HEARST'S INTERNATIONAL MARCH 1922" antique cover

1922

About the Item

Original March 1922 HEARST'S INTERNATIONAL, March 1922 cover created by the notable artist, Alphonse Mucha. Professional acid-free archival linen backed, presented in a 16" x 20" protected acid-free mat suitable for framing. Art Nouveau was a compelling and energetic style in the visual arts that spanned from around the early 1890s to the First World War. The outer edges of this image are created with embossed gold foil. Minor touch of of the 1/4" outer border. The master image is A- where a tiny ding in the paper occurred, slightly above the man's hat. Extremely minor. In 1921, While in the US for his exhibition, Mucha is awarded a number of commissions, including twelve covers for the monthly magazine Hearst’s International. This is the commission for March 1922. Mucha hit the ideal of beauty at the time and – most importantly – gave a new approach to advertising that is still used today. He created many design designs for interiors, utilitarian objects, furniture and jewelry. He is considered the master of Art Nouveau. In 1911, William Randolph Hearst had bought a middling monthly magazine called World To-Day and renamed it Hearst's Magazine in april 1912. In June 1914, it was shortened to Hearst's and was ultimately titled Hearst's International in May 1921. Hearst merged the magazine Hearst's International with Cosmopolitan, effective March 1925. After Hearst died in 1951, the Hearst's International disappeared from the magazine cover altogether in april 1952. This is an Original Lithograph Vintage Hearst's International cover; it is not a reproduction. FREE Continental USA shipping.

It was boldly inscribed in black marker to Peter by Cindy Sherman. Publisher: Hamptons International Film Festival Cindy Sherman Biography: Born in 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Cindy Sherman lives and works in New York NY. Her ground-breaking photographs have interrogated themes around representation and identity in contemporary media for over four decades. Coming to prominence in the late 1970s with the Pictures Generation group alongside artists such as Sherrie Levine, Richard Prince and Louise Lawler, Sherman studied art at Buffalo State College in 1972 where she turned her attention to photography. In 1977, shortly after moving to New York, Sherman began her critically acclaimed Untitled Film Stills. A suite of 69 black and white portraits, Untitled Film Stills sees Sherman impersonate a myriad of stereotypical female characters and caricatures inspired by Hollywood pictures, film noir, and B movies. Using a range of costumes, props and backdrops to manipulate her own appearance and to create photographs resembling promotional film images, the series explores the tension between artifice and identity in consumer culture which has preoccupied the artist’s practice ever since. Sherman continued to channel and reconstruct familiar personas known to the collective psyche, often in unsettling ways. In 1981, the artist created her Centerfolds, a series of photographic double spreads inspired by men’s erotic...
