AMERICAN WOMAN is an original hand drawn lithograph enhanced with hand coloring by the renowned American Pop artist, Peter Max. AMERICAN WOMAN was created in 1980 printed using traditional hand lithography techniques on archival printmaking paper, 100% acid free. Peter Max then added his own unique, hand applied pastel shading over the red, yellow and blue areas creating an effect of softness to this charming feminine portrait . AMERICAN WOMAN presents a dreamy, nostalgic portrait of a beautiful young woman in profile; her wavy, short blonde bobbed hairstyle, eyes cast downward, and pale bare shoulders positioned in front of an almost shimmering background of multi-color horizontal stripes in soft shades of yellow, blue and red. Paper size - 21 x 27 inches, very good condition, unframed, double signed by Peter Max in felt pen on lower right corner and in red pastel on upper right corner. Edition size - 200 Printer - JK Fine Art Editions Co. NY Provenance: From the master printer's private collection. German/American artist: b. 1937, Peter Max spent his childhood in Shanghai. From China, the family went to Tibet for a year, and then on to Israel. Peter Max's family's odyssey continued to Paris, and finally, at the age of 16, Max arrived in the United States. Peter Max began his art studies in New York at the Art Student's League and continued at the Pratt Institute and School of Visual Arts. Peter Max, recognised throughout the world and a well-known name in America, is famous for his new age style, cosmic imagery and multi-colored blends. During the late 1960's and early 70's, Peter Max's colorful award winning art reached millions of people. Peter Max's paintings, drawings, sculpture and limited edition graphics have been exhibited in major museums throughout the world. American icons, especially the Statue of Liberty, appear repeatedly in his art repertoire. Returning to the public art scene in the ‘80s, Max’s American imagery became dramatic, expressing his appreciation of America’s freedoms and creative spirit.

About the Artist: Kenneth Adams was born in Kansas, and first started his art career in Topeka during 1913. He studied with artist, G.M. Stone, who became the basis for his formal education that began three years later at the Art Institute of Chicago. Adams served in WWI, and when he was discharged, he moved to New York City to study at the Art Students League. Soon after completing courses there, Adams moved abroad to study Italian and French art. In 1924, Adams was back in Kansas, where his friend Andrew Dasburg encouraged him to move to New Mexico.
