About the Item
A beautiful Japanese geisha dressed in a traditional robe shyly claps her hands together. She stands in front of a backdrop of a bamboo screen. This print was supervised by Tatsunori Shimura, descendent of the artist and was based on a painting by Tatsumi Shimura. Shimura had a long career, working as an illustrator as well as a print designer for bijin-ga (prints of beautiful women). Numbered “HC” (hors commerce) from an limited edition of 99, and printed by Inter Art Company in Japan. This print reads as a painting and was created with the highest quality standards. This work would work especially well in a bedroom, bathroom or dressing area.

- Japanese Beauties Enjoy a Full MoonBy Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III)Located in Burbank, CA"Sun, Moon and Stars". Three beauties enjoy a full moon on the veranda of a teahouse or restuarant. The woman on the left kneels and adjusts her lavishly printed kimono. The beauty in the center has her hair down, and behind her is a screen against which shadows are beautifully silhouetted, which adds an air of mystery. The seated woman on the right is perhaps a geisha, as we see a shamisen lying next to her. Before her is a tray with an assortment of foods. One may surmise that the beauties are being compared to the sun, the moon, and the stars. On the left we glimpse a full moon shining over the peaceful bay, and boats at harbor. - Hand-coloured Print of weeping mythical sculpture angels in Walnut FrameLocated in London, GBHand-coloured tableau of a weeping spirit and her guardians, immobilised in marble. A disjointed narrative looking at recovery and protection, the angels shield the spirit with tender embraces and cry for her when alone. Taken from The Sialia Marbles, a series of portraits containing ephemeral human sculptures taken between 2016-19. Together these works act as tales contained in a fictional sculpture hall, in direct reaction to Andre Malraux’s 1947 Le Musee Imaginaire (Museum Without Walls). During the beginning of the 'Museum Age' in the 18th century , writer Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe discussed mythical...Category
