About the Item
Original "Beware Spreading Vital Information Will Undermine Our War Effort. Do your Part In Silence" vintage World War 2 poster.
Original, linen-backed, and in excellent condition. The purchase comes with a certificate of authenticity. Issued by the Director of Public Information, Ottawa. Under the authority of the Minister of National War Services. Printed in Canada.
The image features 3 military men talking with a giant ear of what would be Hitler listening into their conversation. Careless talk, including spreading rumors, could be helpful to the enemy and compromise national security and the safety of Armed Forces members. The theme of Loose Lips Sink Ships was a standard message in World War II vintage posters.
Antique posters are 'pictures of persuasion,' as we might call them, and offer a wealth of art, history, design, and popular culture for us to understand. The poster is a familiar part of our world, and we intuitively understand its role as propaganda, promotion, announcement, or advertisement."
Note: World War II posters were folded as they were prepared to be mailed. The restored fold marks are not considered a defect. The bottom right corner was repaired. Clean and bright. Today this original poster is very scarce and difficult to locate.
