About the Item

Raymond Pettibon 1982: Rare original punk flyer featuring artwork by Pettibon for a gig by Hari-Kari, Wasted Youth at Dancing Waters, in downtown San Pedro Thur. Apr. 29, 1982. Offset-printed, 8.5 x 11 inches (28 x 21.6 cm); 1982. Very good overall vintage condition. Unsigned from an edition of unknown. Rare. More on Raymond Pettibon: Raymond Pettibon is the foremost draftsman of his generation, and one of America’s most important contemporary artists. Approaching “high” and “low” subject matter with equal appetite and comfort, Pettibon plumbs the depths of American sexuality, politics, subcultures, mores, and intellectual histories through themes ranging from Shakespeare to Gumby, surfers to the Bible, baseball to German Romanticism. Raymond Pettibon popularized the American punk aesthetic with his designs that captured the riotous and chaotic character of punk such as this rare Black Flag flyer. In your face and rebellious, Black Flag defined American punk with their destructive energy and spontaneity evoked here in the black and white designs, making the portraits reverberate both visually & contextually.
