Shepard Fairey
AI WEIWEI X COST OF EXPRESSION PRINT

2014

About the Item

Cost of Expression Screen Print 18 x 24 Edition of 375 2014 “I admire Ai Weiwei for his art and his activism. His art is beautiful in form, and in function embodies the principles of populism and social consciousness I aspire to in my own practice. This poster is a tribute to Ai Weiwei’s art, his courage to be outspoken, and in support of his ongoing political struggle with the Chinese government. I hope the image will help raise awareness and advance dialogue that might lead to permission for Ai Weiwei to travel freely and continue to express himself.” – Shepard Our gallery takes pride in providing only the highest quality pieces, stored and shipped with acid free tissue paper. Stored flat, with no signs of wear. Contact us for works with a similar style or other recommendations.

  • Banksy Juxtapose Magazine DIsmaland 2015 Original Copy Cyrstal Wagner Interview
    By Banksy
    Located in Draper, UT
Dismaland is the latest innovation in family light entertainment by the graffiti artist Banksy. Installed in the centre of an unfashionable British seaside town frequented by low-income families, Banksy describes it as “the perfect art audience.” The location is a former lido comprising four acres of walled seafront compound, which in recent years has come to more closely resemble a neglected prison yard, an atmosphere Banksy has endeavoured to preserve by declaring that none of the installation crew were allowed to bring a broom. This is an art show for the 99% who would rather not be at an art show. It features a fairytale castle, a boat pond, arcade games and extensive water gardens, all given a distinctly modern twist. But beyond the Mickey-taking is a deadly serious attempt to assemble a show that takes stock of its generation. “It's scrappy, incoherent and self-obsessed, so maybe we're halfway there,” says Banksy. This is certainly not a “street art” show—an art form Banksy describes as “just as reassuringly white, middle class and lacking in women as any other art movement.” The roster of artists ranges from Jenny Holzer, winner of the gold medal at the Venice Biennale, to Ed Hall, a pensioner who has spent forty years producing every major trade union banner...

  • 1943 original poster titled "Katyn - Paradise Underground..."
    Located in PARIS, FR
The 1943 poster titled "Katyn - Paradise Underground..." is a poignant and historically significant artwork that sheds light on a tragic chapter of World War II. Created during a tumultuous time, this poster serves as a visual reminder of the atrocities committed at Katyn. The artist behind this poster is not widely known, but their message is powerful. The poster features an arresting image of bound hands breaking free from the earth, symbolizing the victims of the Katyn Massacre who were executed and buried in mass graves. Katyn, a forest in Russia, became the site of a mass murder of Polish military officers and intellectuals by the Soviet NKVD in 1940. The poster's title, "Paradise Underground," is ironic, as it alludes to the horrific fate that befell these victims who were buried in secret graves. This poster is significant not only for its artistic composition but also for its role in raising awareness about the Katyn Massacre during the war. It was essential in disseminating information about the Soviet Union's actions, which had initially been denied by Soviet authorities. Today, "Katyn - Paradise Underground..." stands as a somber testament to the enduring power of art to convey complex and tragic narratives. It reminds us of the importance of remembering historical events and the role that art plays...
