Art: 9.75" x 6.25" Frame: 20.5" x 17.25" Cornelis Theodorus Maria van Dongen (26 January 1877 – 28 May 1968), usually known as Kees van Dongen or just Van Dongen, was a Dutch painter and one of the Fauves. He gained a reputation for his sensuous, at times garish, portraits. Van Dongen began to exhibit in Paris, and participated in the controversial 1905 Salon d'Automne exhibition. Other painters included Henri Matisse. The bright colors of this group of artists led to them being called Fauves ('Wild Beasts'). Van Dongen was also briefly a member of the German Expressionist group Die Brücke.

Hand-coloured portrait of a bird-like spirit, immobilised in marble, cleansing in a spring-time bath. A character formed from Naiads (a Greek nymph of flowing water), and exploring the idea of a ritualistic cleansing to wash away sombre deeds. Taken from The Sialia Marbles, a series of portraits containing ephemeral human sculptures taken between 2016-19. Noland Anderson is a self taught portrait artist who strives to create works of art that are a celebration of people of color. He is known for his detailed compositions in oils applied with loose brush strokes. He often features images of Black women and men engaging in everyday life in urban settings. Born in Newport News, Virginia with roots in Sumpter, SC, Noland's passion for figure drawing was formed at an early age. Noland attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale where he received an Associate Degree in Advertising. Upon graduating, he went on to work as a freelance illustrator, designing Judaic art throughout the mid 1990s through early 2000s. During this period, Noland's freelance work extended into television where he worked as one of three court artists for the ABC affiliate in South Florida and as an illustrator for Univision (an American media company serving the Latin Market worldwide). Noland is represented by Neema Fine Art Gallery. Neema Fine Art Gallery will donate 15% of the subtotal of each purchase of "Transcendent Achievement Through Transformational Leadership" to the Beta Nu Foundation in an effort to support the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha in their efforts to support the needs of the FAMU student body, the needs of the surrounding community, and promote scholarship among Alpha Phi Alpha members and beyond.
