About the Item

As a uniform of toil, a symbol of status, or a protective accessory, the bandana is an archetype of Americana. Western heroes like John Wayne wore them around their necks in a flourish of pioneering individualism and Rosie the Riveter tied one in her hair as a measure of power and grit. Bandanas are used both to mask identities and reveal cultural affiliations. Today, there is no aspect of Americana more closely affiliated with the bandana than the migrant farmer worker. The bandanas of Archetypes blur the lines of utility and fashion, designed with prints of local cash crops, their native relatives, and migratory animals with which they share a relationship.  The indulgent, luxurious prints—an acknowledgement of the value of these crops and their ecosystem—create tension with the garment’s humble utility to laborers. Wrapped in bright colors, the faceless mannequins make it easy to disassociate the person from the product.  The Archetypes prints reveal the farmer in silhouette embedded the industrial agricultural complex, a dark and faceless figure that is otherwise convenient to dismiss. As an aerial view of Soledad, in the Salinas Valley, Archetypes’ student-painted mural provides the bird’s eye perspective of the impact of our farmed landscape. Archetype: Leaf Lettuce, 2024 and is 16 x 20 inches. UV print on wood panel and custom frame. Comes with the bandana associated with the print. The Language of Flowers and Silent Things — horizontal
By Frédéric Choisel
Located in Burlingame, CA
The Language of Flowers and Silent Things — in four parts with luminous oil on linen. Each panel is 25 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches. Hanging the four paintings in a row with 1 inch between each canvas, the overall dimension is 25 1/2 x 81 inches. Drama and depth at play in this sophisticated painting in aubergine and plum on natural raw Belgian linen. Thin layers of oil paint, create a shimmering and provocative work that shimmers and changes with the light of day and differing seasons. French American Frédéric Choisel, is inspired by the cities and countrysides of France, New York, and California's Bay Area. Like Gerhard Richter, with a background in hyperrealism and shift into abstraction, Choisel is taking us — the viewers of his work — along with him on a visceral journey. Beautiful, rich, highest quality materials used throughout. Artist signed, titled and dated verso. Condition excellent. The four paintings can hang in a quad as pictured or four in a row...
