Coke, Jelly Beans and Lifesavers is a limited edition print by Kate Brinkworth. The bold colours and fun subject matter make for a vibrant piece. Kate Brinkworth started her current work began with a curiosity in films, particularly those directed by or in the style of Hitchcock. Kate Brinkworth finds the use of camera angles and techniques intriguing specifically the use of ‘point-of-view’ shots and the varying areas of focus to bring to the attention of the viewer those areas of distinct importance to the scene or plot. Kate Brinkworth started to collect and work from various small objects, chosen not to be overtly political or ideological, but have undertones from which the viewer may abstract their own opinion. The paintings are not intended to imitate a photograph, but to use the language of film and photography to create an image. The image is in differing degrees of focus, so that the areas that are blurred automatically become more noticeable, but it is intended that the blurred areas become as visually appealing.
