About Lowell Nesbitt.
Lowell Nesbitt, who was born in Baltimore on Oct. 4, 1933, was a graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia and also attended the Royal College of Art in London, where he worked in stained glass & etching. In 1964, the Corcoran Gallery or Art in Washington gave him one of his first museum exhibitions, and by the mid 1970's he had decided to leave the museum a bequest of more than $1 million. But in 1989, he publicly revoked the bequest after the Corcoran canceled a disputed exhibition of photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe, who was an old friend. Mr. Nesbitt named the Phillips Collection as a beneficiary instead. He was frequently grouped with the Photo Realists, but his images were more interpretively distorted, somewhat loosely painted and boldly abbreviated. He had many subjects: studio interiors, articles of clothing, piles of shoes and groupings of fruits and vegetables. He also painted his dog, a Rottweiler named Echo, the Neoclassical facades of SoHo's 19th century cast-iron buildings and several of Manhattan's major bridges. Despite such variety, Lowell Nesbitt was best known for gargantuan images or irises, roses, lilies and other flowers, which he often depicted in close up so that their petals seemed to fill the canvas. Dramatic, implicitly sexual and a little ominous, they earned the artist a popularity with the general public that tended to overshadow his reputation within the art world. In 1980, the United States Postal Service issued four stamps based on Mr. Nesbitt's floral paintings. He also served as the official artist for the space flights of Apollo 9...

Rene Magritte, My Mother Goose, 1968 (after)
Located in Southampton, NY
This exquisite lithograph after Rene Magritte (1898–1967), titled Ma Mere lOye (My Mother Goose), from the folio Les Enfants Trouves de Magritte (The Found Children of Magritte), 1968, originates from the edition published by A.C. Mazo et Cie, Paris, and printed by Mourlot Freres, Paris, on November 20, 1968. The work embodies Magrittes sustained inquiry into semiotics and visual epistemology, translating his characteristic strategies of displacement, symbolic inversion, and conceptual ambiguity into an image that operates as both a poetic metaphor and a philosophical proposition concerning the instability of meaning.
Executed as a lithograph on grand velin dArches paper, this work measures 17.5 x 23.5 inches (44.5 x 59.7 cm). Signed in the plate by the artist; hand signed by Fernand Mourlot, Editeur. The edition exemplifies the technical mastery of the Mourlot atelier.

Condition: Well preserved, consistent with age and medium
Provenance: From the folio Les Enfants Trouves de Magritte, 1968
Notes:
Excerpted from the folio (translated from French), Finished printing in Paris on November 20, 1968, on the presses of Mourlot, for the lithographs. The unpublished text by Louis Scutenaire was composed in Elzevir Casion corps 28 and printed by Fequet et Baudier, typographers. The unpublished compositions numbered from I to IV were specially made by Rene Magritte for this album. The compositions of the Enchanted Domain, are the renderings of the eight paintings of the mural of the Casino de Knokke. They were printed with the benevolent authorization of Mr. Gustave J. Nellens. Justification of the draw, this album was taken from CCCL examples on grand velin dArches numbered from I to CCCL, plus a few examples for collaborators and assistants.
About the Publication:
Les Enfants Trouves de Magritte (The Found Children of Magritte), published in 1968 by A.C. Mazo et Cie, Paris, represents one of the most significant late life print projects devoted to Rene Magrittes work. Conceived as both a literary and visual tribute, the folio pairs texts by the Belgian writer Louis Scutenaire, Magrittes close friend and fellow Surrealist, with lithographic interpretations produced at the Mourlot atelier, the premier lithographic workshop of twentieth century France. The album includes compositions by Magritte alongside lithographic renderings of the celebrated Enchanted Domain mural from the Casino de Knokke, printed with the authorization of Gustave J. Nellens, who commissioned the original mural. Issued in a single edition of CCCL examples on grand velin dArches, the folio stands as a testament to the collaboration between artist, writer, publisher, and master printer, and remains one of the most culturally important Surrealist print albums of the post war era.
About the Artist:
Rene Magritte (1898–1967) was a Belgian Surrealist painter whose visionary, intellectual, and poetic imagery redefined twentieth century art and forever changed how the world perceives reality and illusion. Celebrated for his calm precision and thought provoking juxtapositions of ordinary objects in extraordinary contexts, Magritte used painting as a philosophical tool, transforming the everyday into visual paradoxes that challenged the boundaries between what is seen and what is known. Born in Lessines, Belgium, and trained at the Academie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels, he absorbed early influences from Cubism, Futurism, and Symbolism before embracing Surrealism, where he found his true voice. In Paris, he became part of the avant garde circle that included Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Wassily Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Ray—all artists whose radical ideas helped him forge his distinctive synthesis of logic and mystery. Unlike Dalis dream...

"Crystal and Jade" Still Life Lithograph in Ink on Paper
Delicate and detailed lithograph of a crystal glass and jade vase by John Taylor Arms (American, 1887-1953). On the left side of the composition, there is a crystal martini glass, with intricate designs. Next to it is a jade vase or urn, with a carved surface. They are sitting on an ornate tablecloth, with a strand of beads, possibly a rosary.
Numbered ("VI"), inscribed with a dedication ("To Georgiana Brewer and Jasper S. Mathews Jr from Dorothy and John Taylor Arms"), signed ("John Taylor Arms"), and dated ("1940") along the bottom edge.
Presented in a wood frame with an off-white mat.
Frame size: 16.5"H x 14.75"W
Image size: 8.5"H x 7.25"W
John Taylor Arms was born in Washington, DC in 1887. He studied law at Princeton University, transferring to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, to study architecture, graduating in 1912. After serving as an officer in the United States Navy during World War I, he devoted himself full-time to etching. He published his first original etchings in 1919.
His initial subject was the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City near which he worked. Arms developed a successful career as a graphic artist in the 1920s and 1930s, specializing in series of etchings of Gothic churches and cathedrals in France and Italy. In addition to medieval subjects, Arms made a series of prints of American cities.
He used sewing needles and magnifying glasses to get a fine level of detail. A member of many printmaking societies, Arms served as president of the Society of American Graphic Artists. An educator, Arms wrote the Handbook of Print Making and Print Makers (1934) and did numerous demonstrations and lectures. Arms was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate member in 1930, and became a full member in 1933. His work was also part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1932 Summer Olympics...

TRUE LOVE IN THE SHADOWS (EMBELLISHED)
By Michael Godard

Hand embellished giclee on canvas. Hand signed numbered by Michael Godard. Canvas is stretched. From the edition of 450.
Artwork is in excellent condition. Certificate of Authenticity included. All reasonable offers will be considered.
About the Artist: MICHAEL GODARD (1960- ) Begin with a dramatic black background. Take one part animated olives. Gently swirl with a jigger of sudsy strawberries. Garnish with tipsy grapes. Add a liberal splash of humor.
It’s the recipe for a unique and sought-after collection of vibrant and light-hearted artwork by Michael Godard, known as the “Rock Star of the Art World.” Celebrities, musicians and average people make up his legion of collectors. The waiting list for his original paintings is long and growing.
Godard was born in Southern California and attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He studied fine art at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, choosing to “learn all the rules and then break them,” adding, “I don’t mind criticism from the art world or the public. Without it, I know I’m playing way too safe.”
Godard has dedicated himself to philanthropic causes, working closely with St. Jude’s, Make-a-Wish and other such organizations. Having lost his young daughter, Paige, to cancer, he says, “The funds I help raise save lives, and at the end of the day, it’s the most important thing I do...The world is small - you can truly make an impact on everyone you meet.”
The art and singular humor of Michael Godard are the subject of two books, Don’t Drink and Draw (Foreword by Ozzy Osbourne...

"Water Glasses" - Still Life Etching in Ink on Paper (#9/20)
Located in Soquel, CA
Clean, modern depiction of glasses of water on books by Ellen Ezorsky (American, b. 1956). Three glasses of water are sitting atop a few stacked books. While this piece is executed in black and white, Ezorsky has achieved a wide tonal range between the shadows and highlights, bringing the scene to life. Of particular note is the way she has captured the reflections in the water and the light that the glasses cast on the surfaces below them.
Numbered, titled, signed, and dated along the bottom edge: 9/20 Water Glasses Ellen Ezorsky 11/81
Presented in a new white mat with foamcore backing.
Mat size: 20"H x 16"W
Paper size: 15"H x 10.75"W
Ellen Ezorsky (b. 1956) was born in New York City. After graduating from highschool in New Jersey, she attended State University of New York at Purchase before moving to California. In California, she attended Cabrillo College in 1977 and ’78 before spending two years at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. Ezorsky then returned to the west coast to attend and graduate from UC Santa Cruz with a BA in Studio Art. She then earned her MFA in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. Since graduating, Ezorsky has exhibited extensively and her paintings have been acquired for many private collections across the country.
