Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Vanessa received her BFA from Regis University in Denver, Colorado, along with a minor in education and teaching license. She recently completed her MFA and arts administration certificate from Ohio University's printmaking program. In 2022, she founded the community printmaking studio -Scavenger Studios, in Ashland, Oregon where she leads a variety of workshops, classes and open studios.
"My work implores viewers to reflect on their ecological interactions. I hope acknowledgment of past digressions will inspire a revision of our impact as co-habitants on shared land. I create art as a form of activism and land stewardship that fosters mutualism and intimacy facilitated by the reciprocal act of printmaking. Through illustration, I conjure feelings of deep reverence for our inherent bond with plant and animal kin before they fade into distant memories due to human negligence. Radical renewal of our connection with the environment is necessary for our collective futures to even exist at all." - Vanessa Jo Bahr
