About the Item

It is necessary to know that the history of the pastis 51 is closely linked with the French law. In 1915, it is forbidden in France to sell and consume aniseed drinks. This prohibition is lifted in 1922, year of creation of several marks. In 1938, a decree-law raised the alcohol content of drinks to 45°. The Pernod company then developed its flagship brand of the time, Pernod 45. During the Occupation, the Vichy government considered that the defeat was due, in part, to the "France of the aperitif". It therefore decided to ban again the consumption and sale of alcoholic beverages with a degree higher than 16°. It was not until about ten years later that this law was repealed. The year of liberation of alcoholic beverages, 1951, is celebrated by Pernod with the creation of a specific brand: Pernod 51. The simultaneous existence of a Pernod 45 and a Pernod 51, named respectively after their alcohol content and their year of creation, was a source of confusion. In 1954, the parent company decided to rename the more recent product Pastis 51. Alcohol - Advertising - Music - Windsurfing Ets St Martin Asnières
