Zeal Harris
"Following Zora a.k.a Miss Hurston" water media on synthetic paper

2019

About the Item

Zeal Harris is known for creating seductive, caricaturesque, political, urban-vernacular, story paintings, with a blunt mix of high-brow/low-brow elements. Her micro-narratives offer socio-political commentary about a range of larger issues that often have to do with the layered experiences of race, class, gender, and sexuality. Almost always, the work is based on contemporary real life stories or events in daily life. She is a Los Angeles based visual artist who graduated from UCLA School of Film & Television and later with a MFA in Studio Art from Otis College of Art & Design. She has been in recent exhibitions at the Port Au Prince Haiti Ghetto Biennale, the California African-American Museum, and the Caribbean Cultural Center of the African Diaspora in New York. • "Domestic Recipe #5" Diptych - Acrylic and Collage on Paper- Framed
    By Trevor Norris
    Located in West Hollywood, CA
Trevor Norris was born into a large family living in a small but brightly painted english row house. Life inside was turbulent and colorful. Norris's art is a personal reflection using his written stories as a catalyst to spark each work. The text holds the meaning and yet he covers it with many layers of bright paint making it illegible to the viewer. as each work develops it becomes more about the paint and less about the words. Trevor Norris tells his story, through layers of shapes and paint, reworking his literary narrative, finding order in disorder, and meaning in what is not said. "Domestic Recipe #5" Diptych - Acrylic and Collage on Paper- Framed Measurements listed are for the full width framed diptych...

  • Red Pink on Gold, Botanical Silkscreen Print, Dark Coral Flowers, Bright Yellow
    By Nancy Blum
    Located in Kent, CT
In this bright botanical diptych in pulled ink, silkscreen printing, gouache and hand-drawn lines on paper, dark coral red flowers with verdant green leaves and stems are dramatic against a luminous yellow gold background. Signed, titled, dated and numbered on recto. 30.25 x 35.5 inches (each), 30.25 x 71 inches (diptych) (unframed). Brooklyn-based artist Nancy Blum uses botanical motifs to create images that are universally associated with growth and continuity, aiming to propel comprehension of the connectedness of all beings within the limitless energy operating throughout this world. Blum's large‐scale works on paper, rendered in ink, colored pencil, gouache and graphite, portray a fantastic realm in which flowers own the space. Using a variety of 16th and 17th-century botanical images, from Chinese plum blossoms...
