About the Item
This elegant cup was created by Montana based ceramicist, Adam Field. The cup incorporates Field's love of ancient pottery entwined with the functionality of Colonial American Ware. Inspired by nature, many of Field's forms contain a variety of intricate hand-carved details that resemble designs featured on artifacts across the globe . Additionally, his use of the soft green and blue Celadon glaze evokes a timeless and delicate touch to the piece, capturing the love Field infuses to each of his works.
About the Artist:
Born and raised in Colorado, Adam earned his B.A in Art from Fort Lewis College. For two years, he immersed himself in the culturally rich art scene of the San Francisco Bay Area, where he began his full time studio practice. From there, he relocated to Maui, where he established a thriving studio business. He spent most of 2008 in Icheon, South Korea, studying traditional Korean Potter making techniques under 6th Generation Onggi master Kim III Maan.
In 2013 he created and premiered HIDE-N-SEEKAH at the NCECA conference in Houston, TX. After maintaining his studio in Durango CO for 5 years, Adam moved to Helena, MT in 2013, where he was a long-term resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation for Ceramic Arts. Adam is now a full time studio potter in Helena, MT. His works are included in private collections and kitchen cabinets internationally.

From Harold Wortsman – "With sculpture, my material of choice is high-fired clay. Pieces are first low-fired in an electric kiln. I do not use glazes. Instead, I use oxides applied to the bisqued (low-fired) clay. As with a tattoo, oxides permit the surface underneath to breathe—like naked skin. The work is then high-fired in a gas kiln with double reduction to cone 10. The final temperature is 2,300 degrees F. At a certain point, oxygen intake is reduced to the kiln. Because the fire has reached a critical mass, it needs oxygen and chemically takes it from the clay and the oxides painted on. Like a jazz improvisation, each kiln load comes out slightly different."
