About the Item
This ruggedly beautiful wall sculpture was created by the glass artist, Cheryl Wilson Smith.
Granite Craig is so detailed and natural in its design that it looks as if it had been chipped from the side of a mountain. Fine pieces of highly textured gray, orange-rust and black glass frit (ground glass) have been layered to form this dynamic wall relief.
“The rocks, lakes and trees around me are a daily reminder that I am only passing through. Those trees were here long before me and will be here long after.”
Cheryl Wilson Smith
She was the 2014 winner of the RBC Award for Glass through the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Wilson-Smith has received nine grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council. Commissions include the Red Lake District Heritage Centre, Margaret Cochenor Memorial Hospital Donor wall. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada, in the UK and the US.
